Setting up your Form Migrator tenant

This article is for new purchasers of the Lightning Tools Form Migrator

In this article, we walk through the steps you should take as a Lightning Tools Form Migrator admin in your tenant, after your organization has purchased a license. Essentially, you will log in as an administrator to the account that has been created for you in our portal, and then create licenses for your organization's staff to use the Form Migrator Desktop tool to migrate forms.

Log in to the Form Migrator tenant

When you purchase the Lightning Tools Form Migrator, you'll provide to us the email address of the person in your organization who will be the named Administrator for your Migrator license. That person will receive an automated email with the subject line: “A Kudzu Account has been created for you!” (Kudzu Software is the original developer of the Form Migrator tool, which is a Lightning Tools product as of mid-2025. Eventually, the email and URL will change to refer to Lightning Tools.)

If you have not received this email, please check your spam folder.

The following steps are from the perspective of that administrator.

After receiving the email, click on the link to accept the invitation and access your account. A dialog will open entitled “Invited to Access Kudzu”. Your User ID is your email address at your organization. You'll be asked to enter your name (e.g. your first and last name), and to enter and confirm a password. Click Accept Invitation.

Next, you'll see a dialog to log in to your portal. Please use the User Name (your email) and Password that you set up in Step 1 ("Sign in with a Kudzu account") rather than your normal M365 Work or School login.

After logging in, you'll be taken to app.kudzusoftware.com, where you will now create licenses for the Lightning Tools Form Migrator Desktop application.

Migrator Portal Administration menu

After arriving on the portal home page, open the Administration menu, which you should see in the upper right near your name.

You can click on Subscription to verify the total number of Form migrations, Data migrations, and Archives for which your organization has purchased a license, as well as the expiration date.

The Users selection should only be used if you wish to give others in your organization the ability to also create license keys.

Create Form Migrator Desktop licenses

To create license keys for yourself and any other users, select License Keys from the Administration menu.

Click the blue +New License Key button.

The “New License Key” panel will appear:

Give this license a Name, for example the person's name or department name to whom you are giving it, and enter an optional Description

The Expires date is based on the expiration of your organization's license, and cannot be changed.

Form Conversions, Data Conversions, and Form Archives: These next three fields will display beneath each field the number of licenses available on your organization's subscription. If you will be the only one using the Form Migrator, then you only need to create one license for yourself, and it can include the total quantities of each item purchased. But if you plan to (even potentially) have other members of your staff use the tool, then you should not allocate all of the purchased licenses for yourself. Note that you cannot modify these allocations later, but you will be able to issue additional licenses to people (up to your total numbers). So you may wish to begin with lower numbers per person to get started, and add more via additional licenses later. The licenses will be tied to the people's computers, so please keep that in mind when allocating licenses.

The Writers field will either display various Form migration target platforms (for example, Power Apps, Lightning Forms, etc) that you can select a subset of for this license, or it will be blank if all Writers are available to your organization.

Please do not tick the Is Trial box; this is only for seller use.

The Machine Code field is only for use in cases where the license will be used on a computer with no internet access or which cannot access the license activation service for some reason. In that case, the Desktop Migration tool that's installed on that computer will display a Machine Code that can be entered here to create the license file for that person.

After entering all of the information, click Save

A Download button will then appear; click to download the license file, named kudzu-license.key. You may wish to rename the file to include the person's name, so as to keep the licenses straight - but do not change or remove the .key extension

Provide the file to the appropriate person, and they will upload it into their installation of the Lightning Tools Form Migrator.
