Upgrading DeliverPoint Online

How to upgrade DeliverPoint to a new major version

From time to time, Lightning Tools will release a new version of DeliverPoint, to implement new features. This article describes how to upgrade your installation of DeliverPoint.

NOTE: Sometimes we will release minor-version updates to fix issues, which may be done via CDN updates. If you are using the standard SharePoint Online edition of DeliverPoint (i.e. not GCC or Dedicated), you will receive these updates automatically. This article is about upgrading to major releases, which require downloading a new DeliverPoint package.

Download the new package

For major releases, you will need to go to our Download Center and click the green Download Now button to download a zip folder containing the new version of DeliverPoint.

Save the zip folder somewhere, and unzip the package.

Update the SPFx app

Upgrading the SPFx (SharePoint Framework) application is quick and easy. Navigate to your tenant App Catalog, and click Upload, then browse to the unzipped folder and locate the sppkg file. If your SharePoint Online tenant is standard, the file will be in the folder named “SharePoint Online (most environments)”

Assuming that you have an existing version of DeliverPoint installed, you'll see a message that the file already exists. Click Replace to update the version.

The “Enable App” panel will appear on the right side of your screen, and you can choose (as before) to either only enable the app (so it's not automatically available on every site), or to enable it and add it to all sites (the default). Click Enable app.

The “Approve Access” panel will appear on the right side of your screen. Click Go to API access page

This will take you to the API Access page. If there are any new Microsoft Graph API permissions requested by this DeliverPoint version, they will appear in the Pending section. If you are a Global or Application Administrator, you can approve the new permissions if they are relevant to your usage of DeliverPoint. There will be a note in the version Release Notes regarding any new permissions requested.

If you now navigate to a SharePoint site where you are an Owner, and perform a hard refresh (Ctrl-F5), you should see the updated version number if you open the DeliverPoint console (i.e. select DeliverPoint from the DeliverPoint icon menu in the upper right corner of the page).

Update the Scheduled Reports feature

If you have implemented DeliverPoint's Scheduled Reports feature, you will need to update this feature separately. The following instructions assume that you have used the Azure Deployment method of configuring Scheduled Reports.

From time to time, we may need to make updates to the Azure Deployment wizard or to the JobProcessor application that runs within the Azure Web App. To make this update in your tenant, you will need to re-run the deployment using the updated DPAzureDeploy application you'll find in the “Scheduled Reports Installation Files” folder in the downloaded zip folder (the version number and date will vary from the screenshot below).

Within this folder, locate the DeliverPointAzureDeploy.exe file and double-click to run it. The process will be the same as shown in Lightning Tools — Scheduled Reports Azure deployment wizard, EXCEPT… when updating, you will want to UNcheck the “Deploy New…” boxes on the Database and Web Application tabs of the wizard, so you can select your existing database and Web App.

After running all the way through the Azure Deployment, the Scheduled Report feature will also be up to date with the latest changes to DeliverPoint.
