Installing Lightning Forms in SharePoint 2019/SE

Learn how to install Lightning Forms in your SharePoint 2019 or SE environment.

Introduction

In this video, we describe how to install Lightning Forms in SharePoint 2019 or SharePoint Subscription Edition so that you can begin to modify Modern SharePoint List Forms to bring business logic and improved modern responsive layouts to your modern SharePoint lists.

NOTE: Lightning Forms should be added as an app to the site by the site owner. Keep in mind that a user logged in as Farm Admin / System Account cannot install an app.

This video is from a prior version, so the text below has been updated to reflect the current version.

Installation Steps

Downloading Installation Files

To begin, download the installation files from our website. Look for the SharePoint Server folder, which includes Lightning Forms. The current version is 3.7.0.0. Inside this folder, you will find a subfolder named LF for Lightning Forms, along with a deployment PowerShell script and LT Deploy, an application to install the LF subfolder into Site Assets. Additionally, there is the SPFx package named LTForms.sppkg.

Running LTDeploy

Ensure you are not logged in as the Farm Administrator. Right-click on LTDeploy and run it as the administrator. Select the target web application and hit Deploy. This process will copy the LF folder into your Site Assets in the root site collection. Verify that this has occurred.

App Catalog Deployment

Next, switch to your App Catalog, typically found under SP2019/sites/appcatalog. If you haven't yet provisioned your app catalog, refer to the Microsoft documentation on how to create and establish the App Catalog: Install and manage apps for SharePoint Server - SharePoint Server | Microsoft Learn. After confirming you are not logged in as the Farm Administrator, navigate to Apps for SharePoint and drag the LTForms.sppkg file into your App Catalog. Once deployed, the package should appear with zero errors and be listed as deployed.

Adding Lightning Forms to Your Site

To use Lightning Forms within your site, first add the app. Click on the cog icon, choose "Add an App," and select "From your organization." Select Lightning Forms, and the app will deploy to your site. Once it appears in full color, it has been successfully deployed.

Using Lightning Forms

Now, you can use Lightning Forms inside your SharePoint lists and libraries. Create a new custom list, navigate to it, and you will see the Lightning Forms button on the Command Bar.
